In its ruling of May 12, 1998 - 312O 85/98 - "Liability for links", the Hamburg Regional Court ruled that by providing a link, one may be jointly responsible for the content of the linked pages and possibly even the links provided there. However, according to §§ 8 to 10 German Telemedia Act (TMG), service providers are not obligated to monitor submitted or stored information or to search for evidences that indicate illegal activities. Legal obligations to removing information or to blocking the use of information remain unchallenged.
